When Daisy took the decision to train to be a coach, she found it difficult to square her passion for helping people with the process-driven requirements of her course. She realised that working with someone to help her manage her feelings was going to be crucial, but that someone wouldn’t just be the first name she encountered.
This is what happened next…
‘The organisation I am training with is incredibly corporate – and that’s not me. Enter Emma, with her bright yellow dungarees and cheerful smile. She just stood out as someone who could help me overcome my frustrations and focus on achieving my goals.
From the beginning, her advice was eminently practical and outcomes focused. For example, she encouraged me to deconstruct the anxiety I felt about my coaching exams by gently prompting me to remove my limiting beliefs. And guess what? I recently submitted a paper and feel good about it! Her grounded way of working unpicked what was holding me back by successfully challenging the ‘it’s just me and I can never change’ narrative that stops many of us from moving forwards.
Working with Emma also helped me acknowledge (and overcome) some nagging doubts I had about returning to the workforce. As someone who’d been a full-time mum for years, I thought I might struggle to ‘fit in’ after so long away. Emma helped me develop the confidence to believe I could not only fit in, but flourish. She gets that the world moves fast, and it can be tough to feel you belong. Her mantra of ‘keep going for it’ empowers you and makes you realise those doubts are just noise.
At the same time as studying for my coaching qualifications, I’ve also been working on setting up a side business. Sometimes planning has been a struggle, but Emma helped me scale things back and work with what’s right in front of me, breaking down the stages so it all felt manageable.’
How working with Emma felt for me
‘Her picture and smile may have sold her initially, but she’s so much more than that. Emma’s way of working is unique. She’s got incredible people skills and an empathic approach to removing stressors in ways that feel entirely natural. In that – and all other respects – she is the complete opposite of the identikit corporate coaching I wanted to get away from.
Moreover, she had a knack of helping me identify reserves of inner strength I’d probably forgotten about or, in some cases, didn’t even know I had. And because of her warmth, understanding and insight, I found it easy to build rapport and a relationship of trust with her. I knew she had my back and she was always in my corner, helping me to break free from negative behaviours by showing that habits can change. That’s not to say that everything became better overnight; I had to do the work to create the change I wanted, but with Emma’s encouragement it became a lot easier to summon the energy, creativity and focus required to live my best life.
Finally, if ever I encounter a difficult period or I start to feel self-doubt, I hear Emma’s voice in my head saying, ‘no, you’re not trying to do this, you are doing it.’ It’s a subtle shift but an important one that influences how I see myself and what I’m capable of. In that respect – and many others – working with Emma has been truly transformational.’
I believe that all of us have the power to unleash the genuine joy that comes from living life on purpose with purpose. However, sometimes it’s difficult to break free of limiting beliefs and become the people we really want to be. The good news is that it is possible to move beyond self-imposed limitations and achieve the goals we set for ourselves – be they personal or professional.
