Are your staff experiencing stress and anxiety?

Would you like to help them become happier, more relaxed and more productive?

Clive, a Senior Manager in the Science and Technology Sector, describes how brining me in to work with his team helped to create transformational change throughout his organisation.

‘The first experience I had of working with Emma was when she delivered a couple of company wide webinars that were designed as a broad introduction to her mental fitness programme.

The success of these webinars led us to commission Emma to run the full eight-week programme in structured cohorts of 4 people, supplemented by one-to-one sessions at the end.

As one of the company’s mental health leads, I knew that certain individuals were suffering from stress at work and Emma could help them develop their mental resilience.

In the beginning we focused on senior managers – particularly those with mentoring  responsibilities. The initial results were so positive that the programme was rolled out to colleagues in other parts of the organisation.

Isolating the cause of stress and anxiety is as important in a business context as it is in other walks of life, not least because most of us have days where we feel under pressure from internal and external expectations. By exploring concepts such as defeating internal saboteurs, Emma helped shift the focus from negatives to positives, building self-awareness and improving our ability to communicate with one another. By using her toolbox of techniques, we started to recognise our key stressors and, just as importantly, learn how to overcome them.

From a management perspective, these insights were incredibly useful, as they helped us develop a clearer picture of staff morale which, in turn, meant we could focus on creating a person-centred rather than a top-down approach to well-being.

We have also seen practical examples of staff using the techniques embedded in the mental fitness program. On one occasion, for example, I noticed a colleague using PQ reps to focus their mind on positive decision making before an important client meeting – with great success.

The fact that colleagues who’ve gone through the programme are still using what they’ve learned, is the best evidence I can offer that Emma’s approach works. And I can honestly say that it’s not just due to the programme itself; it’s also a testament to the way it’s delivered. Emma brings warmth, personality and passion to what she does. She is truly invested in helping people become happier and gives her all to the task. Nothing about what she does feels transactional, yet she still maintains that delicate balance between the professional and the personal. This is reflected in her commitment to confidentiality: issues specific to individuals remain in one to ones, while managers get ‘white labelled’ feedback that helps them make informed decisions about staff well-being. At the same time, she has the courage to keep individuals accountable and the skill to help them help themselves.

For anyone looking for ways to encourage their staff to become happier and more productive at work, I would urge them to consider working with Emma.’
