Do you feel stressed and overwhelmed? It can happen to us all and the good news is there is something we can do about it, with the right help and support!
Stress, anxiety and depression are debilitating conditions that profoundly affect our ability to enjoy life. When we experience these feelings, we are more likely to lose confidence and retreat into negative patterns of thought. Coaching can play a supporting role in helping us improve our self-understanding and mental fitness, giving us the confidence to move forwards in our lives.
When Ian decided that he needed help to tackle powerful negative feelings, he reached out to me. Here he talks about how we worked together to support him through this period of change.
‘I knew Emma from the work she’d done with the company I work for, so I already had a pretty good idea of her capabilities. I’d seen the changes she’d made and felt confident that her knowledge, skills and experience would translate from a corporate coaching context to something more personal.
The backstory to our coaching journey was, in some respects, a familiar one. I’d been through a number of stressful situations at work, including some major changes in the structure of the business. At the same time, incidents in my personal life compounded these problems and left me feeling depressed and anxious.
I contacted Emma and we started to work together to find solutions to how I was feeling and get me moving forward again.
Once you engage with Emma you’re immediately put at ease by her warm and encouraging personality, not talked at for an hour which could result in confusion. The relationship you build with her is, rather, a genuine collaboration designed to unlock the power of positive transformation.
The way Emma works is rather like a guide, helping you map the terrain of your own mind. She gently prompts you to unpack how you’re feeling and supplements her approach with theoretical and practical tools that restore balance to your life. In short, she’s big on personal empowerment and she’s big on giving you the confidence to make it happen.
In practical terms, this might involve subtly encouraging you to see setbacks as opportunities, or it might involve challenging old, unhelpful ways of thinking that result in negative impressions. Wherever you are in the relationship, Emma knows what’s required to develop your self-knowledge to a point where you’re able to tackle problems, build resilience and remove obstacles.
I am pleased to say that the work we’ve done together has had a hugely positive effect on my wellbeing. Occasionally, I slip back, but I always know that I can revisit what I’ve learned or, failing that, I can contact her and book additional sessions. To have someone who marries such a high degree of coaching skill with genuine empathy and kindness a phone call away has made a big difference to my life and I can’t recommend her highly enough.’
