The downside of technology… and the parallels in life and business

A different kind of post today, because yesterday I had something happen which has thrown me more than I expected… however there are also parallels in life and in business, and certainly within large companies… I see it in my work and I have experienced it.

I often ponder on how much we now rely on technology, yet things still often merrily carry on…

However yesterday for some unknown reason my personal account and main business age on Facebook and Instagram, were disabled and there is NOTHING I can do about it… and it feels oddly impactful.

It certainly feels concerning that this can happen and I can not ask questions as to the reason, and therefore can also not respond. I was only able to click a button to appeal it… and if they (either a person or an Ai tool) decide it is a no, then that is that…

It made me realise how much we rely on things like this for connection and shared experiences, for business, for information and so on… hopefully it will resolve, because otherwise I lose contact with friends I have met on my travels from around the world, and years of business posts and interactions, just like that…

I wonder if this has ever happened to you, or how many people experience this, which brings with it a sense of powerlessness. I find it concerning the amount of power held by someone or something, because it mentioned it could have been an Ai tool. And that companies which we often have very little choice as to whether or not we use, can make an error which is so impactful and can have so much power over someone else without any come back…

Parallels in life and business

The parallels in life and business can be when when we have decisions taken from us, for any number of reasons, and we have no way to change the outcome or respond… I am using this as an example, however it is speaks to so much more.

Often in life we come across situations where someone has or something has happened and we feel powerless… I have felt it myself many times through-out my whole life and and so many of my clients have too. I am pretty sure everyone has experienced that sense of powerless on some level, whether in a personal or work setting. Examples may be the end of a relationship, a significant change in health, a bereavement, or a redundancy or change in your work environment where you don’t have a say, a forced move, and so on, there are so many other ways this feeling can show up…

What we can do

As I have always said, the thing is we can not change may of the things which happen to us, the only thing we have control over is how we respond to it and this will certainly change how I run my business going forwards and I will always make sure I can contact friends in more than one way!

There is always something to learn from things like this!
